I just saw this article and thiought I'd share. This puts perspective on the usefullness of 3D printers in 3rd world countries. Too often we reason from our limited experience and come to the wrong conclusions. Of course it's cheaper for me to just buy that small plastic device here in the 1st world than to print it. And we might reason that with limited resources a 3D printer would be an expensive luxury in the 3rd world. But in third world countries where import costs might be prohibitive, and corruption might mean imports are often "re-routed" or require extra "fees" to get out of customs, it may make all kinds of sense to print umbilical cord clamps, IV tube clamps, or finger splints. This article made me smile on the inside.
