What is the going rate for a rep rap?

Hi Everyone,

I am new to the rep rap scene and am wondering what the going rate is for fully assembled mendel max 2.0 ? Also, is there better rep rap machines than mendel max?

I always want to say 500.00$ but mendal max includes an extruded frame that is quite impressively durable, and coslty. I would think 700.00$ for mendal max. Now double both prices if it is built for you. So 1000-1400 if it is built for you. hope that helps. These are guesses. Fair market determines actual price. Sometimes a reason for higher cost is demand. That demand is likely for a reason, such as repeat business, and support. Take these into consideration as well.

yes there are a few machines My personal opinion leans towards. look up ultimaker, and mendel90

A Mendel Max 2 is a specific machine with a larger build area, precision motion parts and a rigid frame. For Mendel Max 2.0 the going price is around couple grand, assembled and calibrated from the guy that designed it, Maxbots at Maker's Tool Works in OKC. There are a couple of drivers of cost. First, the Igus motion components. There are 27 or so laser/waterjet cut parts. Misumi extrusion and T slot nuts. PSU, hotend and motors. Printed parts are minimal. I see it as more a commercial grade machine rather than a hobby machine. Details, BOM etc at mendelmax.com and in MTWs Github.

I'm building an MM2 right now. I've got most of the parts for the first machine. The last big things are the Igus order and the electronics. I'm using 24 vdc Meanwell PSU, rambo with large LCD, Maxstruder with all metal hot end (either Prusa 2 or E3D, only piece that hasn't been ordered) and Kysan motors. The long term goal is to integrate a micro PC so the machine can be used as standalone tool with slicing, model preview, etc.

It sounds like you're looking for an "out of the box" user experience. Make has reviewed a bunch of 3d printers that you don't have to make. (they don't seem embarrassed about that either..)

Went to buy the article but Makershed seems to be shut... winking smiley Interesting though that some of the printers that scored the best are also printers they sell in their store. Not that my tin foil hat is too tight or anything. I look forward to reading it when the cart comes back online.

EDIT: Big thumbs down for Makershed. The site did come back up and when I purchased the article and Paypal processed the transaction, they replied saying it could take a day for them to process a download link. Really?
