Mendelmax 1'' extrusions?
November 13, 2013 02:36PM
I have a ton of 80/20 aluminum T-slot extrusion. The smallest I have is 1'' (25.4mm). Can this be used to build a Mendelmax or can the parts not be adapted?
thanks!

If you are building a MM 1.5, I think the answer is no. Most of the parts would probably still work, but a few will need to be changed. Off the top of my head, the top vertexes will certainly not work as-is.

i think you could just scale it up slightly?

Can the frame parts be cut on a router? If so, I can edit them.

If you have a router, a better approach may be to modify MendelMax 2.0 parts. (again, I'm not sure if your intention was to build a MendelMax 1.5 or a 2.0)

AFIK, MendelMax 2.0 mainly uses flat aluminium plates rather than the 3D printed plastic parts (though you'd need to double check this).

DXF files for MendleMax 2.0 have been released on GitHub [github.com]
But you'd need to make some modifications to the files, to compensate for your larger extrusion size.

You may be able to just scale them by 200%, expecially if you are just cutting the profile on a CNC router, but you may not want to double the size of the bolt holes (however this will be dependent on your extrusion as well)

Some people have built oversize MendelMax 1.5's so you may want to research what they did (I did a quick search and the only one I can find is [reprap.soup.io] but I'm sure there are others)
