undocumented bed template change

Hi all. There's a notch that's been added to the bed templates (parts C & D, IIRC), that is not discussed anywhere. I'm just wondering if anyone knows anything about it.

Compare the attached file with:

[Cartesian bot assembly documentation page]:
[reprap.org]

&

[pdf templates]:

ps -- I've emailed Ed Sells about this, but he seems to be AWOL until next week.

I'm at work at the moment, so I can't open that right now, but I believe I know what your referring to.
That notch is part of the nozzle wipe sequence

Yes the nozzle wiper (also not shown in the build instructions) attaches to one of the frame diagonals at nozzle height. The bed then has to have a gap to get past it.

So is this a legacy feature from older nozzle designs? Am I likely to want it at some point?

I am not sure it is legacy, I haven't see it used recently but I find nozzle wiping essential on my RepStrap. I think other approaches are to wipe the nozzle on the bed around the perimeter of the object, or manually removing the startup ooze with tweezers.
