Prusa i3 single plate build which plastic set to use?
December 27, 2013 05:40PM
Hi Guys\Gals...

Well I finally got the spare funds together to build myself a printer and have set my mind on a single frame prusa i3.

My confusion has set in pretty quick with regards to which plastic parts set to order for it.

I have already purchased all (I think) of the electronics except for the psu, see link......
Electronics Kit

The single frame kit I am looking at is this one.........

Now because the hotend is a G3D Buda-style what complete plastic set will be suitable to use for this and the above frame kit.
An eBay link would be great if anyone has one?.

Cheers for any help guys

Have I asked a silly question here?

That's not a silly question!

-This- is a silly question: How many surrealists does it take to change a light bulb?

Sorry, for a moment Monty Python took over...

I suspect the deafening silence is due to no one really knowing what to answer you. winking smiley I've built a few Prusa i3, and I think you have a rather standard frame. I'm guessing most plastic parts that are not intended for the wooden box frame would fit.

Someone who knows better should come along shortly.

That is a reinforced single sheet frame. To me it looks like sgraber's design. All i3 single sheet plastic kits _should_ be compatible with it.

So get a single sheet plastic kit with greg/wade style extruder. Buda is compatible with it. I recommend to get a kit that has been printed from ABS plastic. The link is only for reference.

The vanilla dist in Prusa's Github will work fine and the STLs have already been built so that will save you having to make them if you aren't familiar with doing so. [github.com] If you need to buy them already printed you can search the sale forum here or look on ebay for for single plate Prusa i3 parts.

Thank you for coming to my rescue guys it's really appreciated thumbs up.

Good call on the ABS recommendation.

I have looked on eBay but on nearly all the single plate plastics auctions the parts look different to the next one?.

Here is the link to the kit if that helps narrowing it down.

UK links would be good.

In your link that shows the kit you bought there is a section called "People who viewed this item also viewed" and there are several plastic kits shown there. I would think they would all be the same except possibly for the extruder but they do say what extruder they are for.

You could also ask the seller you bought from if he recommends a particular seller or kit, I am sure he has been asked before and probably knows a good one.

The differences in kits can be in extruders, idlers and X ends. I've bought a few sets from this seller. [www.ebay.co.uk] . She's in the US and the quality and service are top notch.

Thank you for taking the time to reply but as luck would have it I found a seller on eBay who is local to me and seems to know what I need.
The chaps printing them now and dropping them off tomorrow , now how's that for service!!

Once I get all my parts here I'll start a build thread and no doubt pick all your brains again.

Cheers again guys
