Magma Hot End assembly problems
January 19, 2014 11:43AM
Hi all! I'm trying to finish up my Makerfarm 6" Prusa i3, but I've run into a snag with the Magma Hot End. It won't fit into the mounting plate (see attached pics). Either the plate isn't wide enough or the hot end is thicker than it should be. Colin offered to send me a replacement, but I wanted to see if anyone here had a similar problem/or has ideas for how to get around it?

Thanks!

All of the ones I have gotten are a really tight fit. The plate is just aluminum so a fine file or sand paper to make the slot a little bigger.
If you have a dremmel tool just use a fine sanding/buffer head.

Ooh I'll try that! Thanks! The plate is just to hold the hot end in place, right? I dont have to worry about it being able to turn or anything?

Could you maybe not open two topics in two different forums for this question?

Just sand it a tiny bit. but keep in mind that you dont want this moving during printing.
My Magma hot end was tight too but it went it with a little lovin.

I had the same problem... The plate was too thick to slide onto the hot end.
My solution was to get out my sharpening stones and lap the plate until I shaved off enough to fit. I took the metal off the flat side, not the one w/ the recess around the opening. Fits great now.

My husband ended up banging out/in the sides so we could slide the extruder through. Worked out, so now I'm just hoping I put the rest of it together smiling smiley

Thanks!!!

Another solution for people in the future,

heat up the plate, and put the hotend in the fridge.

Cool one piece and heat the other.

Then slide them together at let them come to temperature.

This is known as shrink fitting
