Hey guys,
so built my first 3d printer, prusa mendel i2. However i found out something weird about it. when i turn it on, my x axis motor starts heating up. even if i dont connect it to pc. the driver is heating up as well. im using sanguinolulu v1.3a. other motors dont do that so im wondering if it is normal or if someone has ever experienced that. Thanks for your answers smiling smiley.

Check your solder points on your driver. I'm assuming A4988? Also switch with another and see if it's the same one or just the x placement.

Someone was just playing with variable resistor on the driver. But thanks for help anyway. I still dont understand why it was overheating even when motor was not running.

Even if the motor is not moving, it still gets power to hold its position. If not, it will be easy to turn and introduce errors. Most firmware nowadays have a timeout feature that would disable power to the motors after being idle. There's also a button in pronterface.
