Salvaging parts from ink printers?

I took apart an old Canon all in one printer, and noticed the print head had a good rail system. I know the rail would work, but would the motors work? I'm figuring if i can salvage 3 more printers parts, i could have most of the mechanical parts i'd need to do X, Y, and Z axis'. Then i'd need to find the electronics, extruder, filament, and print bed. Has anyone on here tried this before?
