Once you add the third axis you'll be ready to mount a small trim router to it. Then you'll be able to cut a mandrel right on the machine from wood or foam to produce airfoils, square, triangular or hexagon tubes, airplane fusalages,rocket nose cones.

I can't afford one, I don't have time to spend working on new projects that need one but damn do I want one. Great design idea. I could see someone buying one these and creating a business making parts almost immediately.

I would not be surprised to see bike guys jump all over this.

Am I wrong in thinking that this could be used to make custom driveshafts?

Winding filament probably has a cheaper material cost and produces the lightest component, but many uses for a carbon fiber tube can be met without a winder by using a bi-axial CF sleeve drawn over the same mandrel and compressed with the same heat tape. With that said, I have a one-off back burner project that would really lend itself to a filament winder, but I don't know if it is worth the investment in a machine versus just paying someone else with the machine to run my one-off job when the time comes.....

No not yet - 3 Axis Filament Winder is next goal - we can make many more types of parts with 3 axis than 2
