First Build (Prusa i3 Alu Single Plate)

Approaching the end of my first 3d printer build. As mentioned its a Prusa i3 variation, using the single frame design. I've got the mechanical build pretty much down, requires maybe some more time setting the frame and axis square etc, but all is well.

Today I wired up all the motors, heatbed + thermistor, and for the first time powered up the RAMPS board and Arduino. Yes, excitement got the better of me winking smiley However I have an observation and would welcome some advice, upon powering up I noticed all stepper motors activated and began continuosly cycling, only travelling approximately a 1/4 turn in each direction. is this normal or some sort of test mode ? Im guessing I'm missing something pretty fundamental, and welcome advice.

Would seem you have the arduino programmed with the RAMPS test routine ... did you not program the Arduino ? before testing ?

C.
