Filament Knots on Spool

This may have been posted before but I couldn't really find this problem the way I am. For some reason my spool of PLA keeps knotting. If I manually push on the filament backwards I can get it untangled, but it's a pain to have to sit at the machine and watch for it every time it does it. Is there a way to alleviate this problem? I even have the spool riding on two 608 bearings, but its like the filament is spooled in a way to maximize knots. Here's a pic:

Thanks for the help!

I use to have lots of trouble with filament coming off the roll (un spooling then sliding off the sides and ending in knots). If this is similar because the filament it shifting on the spool, take it off the bearings to make it so some friction is needed to pull it of then it wont unwind and tangle.

If this is not what is causing it, then maybe it's just the way the mfg rolled it up.

I actually use this holder (lots of friction) now and have not had a single tangle in over a year [airwolf3d.com]

Maybe if you annealed the filament 10-20 degrees below the glass transition temperature it would reduce the tendency to twist.
You don't want it to fuse, use the drying temperature.

I have this problem when I let the cut end of the filament free and it jumps back to the spool.
It usually tucks under other wraps, and when i later grab the end to feed into the extruder, that knot like you've shown is the result.

I've had long prints start off good, with me specifically looking at the spool for this issue. It then shows up later.
I think it is a single overlap that is hard to notice as the filament easily comes off the roll, and the tangle is 4+ coils into the roll.

You should unwrap all coils until the overlapping wraps are gone. in your picture, looks like 4 or more should fix it.

I would not think the manufacturing process that created the spool of filament put a tangle onto it.

I actually unwound a ton of it and it was tangled about 50+ rolls down. After I respooled that I didn't have a problem. I really do think it was wound poorly by the manufacturer. The price you pay for $13/lb PLA

I had this problem with several rolls of PLA I got from a company called JustPLA. After a few failed prints I decided to correct the problem once and for all. I know some people here have said to unroll it a few turns but that does not work because it is overrapped at the bottom of the spool so the end is actually under several wraps of the spool so unwrapping it will just go so far and then it locks up. What I did was get to the lockup point and feed the end back under all of the overlaps.
Which means it can not possibly do it again.

Once I did that the spools worked perfectly from that point right to the end of the spool.
