Isn't Slic3r's "vase" option doing the same thing but only in the up direction?

This is interesting...
its taken slicing from the 2d layer by layer to the 3d so that a curved surface can be printed as one layer over variable Z heights
Not sure how useful it is, but it is certainly interesting.
