Joining last bits of filament together?

So i've got a few spool of filament here that only have maybe 10 meters of filament each. I have found that you can join them together with some applied heat, but couldn't you also join them with some acetone?

Either straight acetone or ABS juice should work, right?

Use a short section of tubing as a guide, and is not effected by the solvent.
Dab the ends of the filament into your solvent and insert the two ends into the tubing, and allow to dry.
If you can create a scarf joint it will be stronger.
Test the joint by flexing, and if it's brittle try annealing the joint by warming it up with a hair dryer.

You can also hot plate weld the ends together by pressing the ends onto a heated surface with a non stick surface (Teflon), or with an open flame.
Clean up the melted edges with a knife.

Yes acetone will work (for ABS). Just understand that the joint will be a little brittle so be a little careful with it until it's fed into the machine. I tried many methods and found I could do it by hand easier than most methods. You may need to trim it a bit to make sure it's not bigger around than the original filament or it may have a problem feeding.
