Making 3d printer attachment on shapeoko2 cnc machine . July 03, 2014 01:23AM |

). I haven't gotten my shapeoko 2 in the mail yet so I don't know for sure how it works. I am thinking since it uses geode I could easily use repetier for the cnc machine as well, and somehow make a separate printer config and change the gcode for certain functions like turning on the extruder, or the fan since the gcode to turn on a extruder is different than a 3d printer? Would it be possible for me to just keep the existing grblshield on the cnc's arduino and just somehow change the gcode commands to match that of the cnc machines? or is what I am thinking of not possible? My end goal is to just disconnect the knock off dremel power cable with the extruder cable (and power the fan if it doesn't have a fan connection by a battery and a switch), or connect the two to a switch and be able to just remove dremel, slide in the 3d printer attachment (extruder, with thermistor, and fan) and just flip the switch for the dremels power to be off and the 3d printers side on?). I am trying to avoid having to unplug the stepper motors from the cnc grblshield to a RAMPS control board I have, and somehow rig it so i can just easily interchange them? Sorry for the long post
! Maybe I could split all the stepper motor connecter so I have two connectors that go to the same motor, have it hooked to both and just power up the one I want to use and plug that boards usb into my computer and use repetier!

I bought a longer z axis rod to replace the default one when it comes in the mail, I am also very familiar with the amount of time it takes to setup a machine like this (built a printrbot simple metal and prusa I3), I just wanted to gauge if this was a possible mod

). I am sorry if this seems simple lol, I just don't see what you are talking about. I am looking at pictures of the shapeoko2 and I see a z axis stepper motor, acme threaded rod, and the dremel. I see no reason why I would need to lengthen the y axis side pillars if I could just buy the longer maker slide, and longer M8 threaded rod?

Hmm, the dremel slides on the z axis maker slide which is moved by a stepper motor with acme threaded rod (tell me if I am wrong).
