Extruder Jamming/ Skipping Help!

Any help greatly appreciated as I have been dealing with this problem for monthssad smiley

I have a compression spring Extruder which I have made on my own from aluminum. Using regular gear and NEMA17 motor.

Are these motors strong enough ? Mine keeps skipping- same way when you hold the rotating gear as the motor is moving it starts to skipp .

I ensure there is as little resistance on the idler and spacing so that the filament does not get crushed.

The Extruder has 2 fans on it but the motor still gets hot. I tested duplicate and it sounds and runs the same.

Could it be the motor?

Any advice is greatly appreciated !

It sounds like it could be the motor, I use high torque NEMA 17's on my printer. Is the voltage from the pololu stepper driver to your motor set correctly? If not, that may be the cause.

how even is your feed stock going in? if diameter exceeds 2.95mm it may have trouble going in because of die swelling that occurs. also is the material pla, or abs? abs needs to run at higher temp, pla needs to run cooler. pla has more of a sweet spot, too hot it plugs up, too cool it does not flow.
also what are the nema 17s style and type or at least part # you are using and what is your driver (ramps and pololu for example)

can you show a picture of your setup? also do you have any retraction, and does your print seem fine still. it is ok for motor to skip as long as the feedstock does not strip out. it also can be that your flow rate settings are a little too much, causing pressure to rise gradually.

setting flow rate to high happens a lot during test prints because people fail to prime there nozzle before prints (flow material thru the nozzle before a print begins) but your nema motors must be able to handle at a minimum of 24oz/inch torque, recommenced is 48 oz/inch or greater.
