Has Someone Autocleaning Before Printing Starts?

I have to extrude 5mm and take it off with pliers just before the printing starts. What comercial machines do to clean the nozzle at start? Has someone invented something automatic nozzle cleaning?

Usually I've seen the printer draw a line along one of the edges to clean anything that's oozed and/or prime the nozzle. Or print a skirt to do the same thing.

I've seen a video of a printer where the print bed moves to home and then it moves so far that the nozzle isn't above the bed anymore, then filament is extruded, and the bed moves back under the nozzle and moves to the printing area and starts printing. Because the nozzle hits the side of the bed while being perfectly leveled, the extruded material falls down the side of the print bed and the nozzle is under pressure with clean filament.

In this video you see it happen when the nozzle gets cleaned for the next printing color:

This is what I have also seen at the start of a print on another machine, but I can't find the video!

the hydraraptor by nophead had a wire brush to clean the nozzle..

Not a good idea. Ferrous material will destroy hot brass. Don't take a wire brush to a brass nozzle.

I use a steel wool pads that are used for cleaning copper plumbing tubes before soldering.
They are made of pretty fine steel wool and don't damage the nozzle.

It could be then steel wool cleaning point somewhere near the edge (or some other material). A piece of G-code. Cleaning before start options should be integrated to Slic3r.

If you park the nozzle on the bed while it is warming up then it doesn't need to be cleaned. See [hydraraptor.blogspot.co.uk]

I just print a skirt. Easy to implement. Only down side is that is shrinks your build area by a tiny amount.

I usually use skirt around the print, but it doesn't help with oozed filament smudging around nozzle hanging there and messing with the print. Sometimes with luck the ooze drops and stays away, but not always. Perhaps easier with PLA, but for now I'm using ABS. I have to try if it is then so simple like homing Z (parking the nozzle) ? Almost against glass bed no oozing then.
