Does anyone have any suggestions on where to buy filament for less than 30 bucks a spool?

Well there's a lot of options to buy some inexpensive filament. But not makerbot's. AFAIK makerbot's trying to make money from any possible way. With expensive machines, and expensive consumables. If you bought a new replicator and are entrapped by the fixed spool size, you can roll other brands filaments over you old makerbot's spool. If you don't go too cheap, print quality will be the same.

This: Makerbot filament isn't any different from normal PLA. I've had success with "El-Cheapo" filament from Zen Toolworks off Amazon, though with providers like that YMMV.

Fry's has Shaxon filament for $25/kg (or at least that was what it was when I was there last Friday). I haven't printed with it, so I can't comment first hand on the quality. Reviews are mixed and apparently the ABS isn't pure as it doesn't dissolve fully in acetone.
