Is the J-Head V5B worth the money?

Hi,

I bought a cheap printer from China, electronics seem fine, but hotend keeps getting blocked. So going to treat myself.

Is the J-head worth the £42 outlay or is there a cheaper alternative that is comparable?

I am based in the UK, so ideally would like to buy here for shipping speed, but also happy to import if needed.

Yes, but I like the simplicity of the J-Head and I think they are cheaper

You can also go for the Merlin hotend, of course, the original J-head is worth the money, but there are alternatives. If you like printing with PLA 1.75mm it's better to take the J-head or the Merlin where with ABS and higher-temp filaments the E3D will be a solid choice. For 1.75mm PLA I've seen some trouble with the E3D.

I have decided to try and master PLA, before moving to any other exotic material.

Any info on the Merlin, the Wiki is lacking the info, compared to the J-Head

Yes, a Reifsnyder made JHead is worth the money. There are some others. I haven't used the Merlin but have used the Aluhead, E3D and Genie all with excellent results.

I am in the UK. I have bought two Mk Vb Jheads from Hotends.com in the US. Delivery was very quick - less than 1 week.

Yes, they are worth the money. Machining is superb. I previously struggled with a QU-BD extruder. I use 1.75mm ABS with 0.35 nozzle and a Wade extruder with a Bowden tube. Replacement parts are also available if any get damaged.

If you can afford it, get an E3D v6. They're awesome.
