Printed materials resistance to heat and UV
May 07, 2015 08:02PM
Hi,
I am printing some device I am going to use this summer in places where the temperature is easily over 40deg Celsius plus the sun.
My question is what is my best choice for material and what colours.
I though I should really go for ABS since its melting point is higher then PLA but I often see that it is fragile to UV.
Could I apply some UV resident coating on the printed parts ?
Also what would be the best color to chose, I read some place black would be better, but dosent black retain more heat so in the end will deform more ?

Thanks to share your thought and your experience !

Normally black plastic is colored with carbon black which provides some UV protection. I would imagine that the best protection against UV would be a UV resistant paint applied to the parts, if your application would allow the additional coating.
