is differentiating between red(+) and black(-) important??
The manual I am using uses a different type of wire in the connection
themistor.JPG
My setup is opposite, at least when aligning the ridges of the plastic connection.

I do believe that the thermistor as well as the heater element are not polarity specific.

The manual explicitly said that about the heating element but not the thermistor.

The thermistor is (should be) polarity-independent.
