can the platform disalign mid print from motor error?
May 12, 2015 08:01AM
When i run my printer for 3 4 hours all seems ok, but when i came home to do anothe print, in two days i had two 1mm slips on the Y axis, first time was within 2 minutes of a new print, and second time after 10 minutes of a new print.

The belt is very tight, the motor cog is very tightly screwd on, the belt moves freely, the y axis slides very well, I have to try adding greece to it, but i did that 25 hours of printing ago.

Can the reprap disalign for other reasons?

Check your acceleration and jerk settings. Setting them properly requires adjustments during a complex structure print, not a simple cube or cylinder. If acceleration/jerk are too high the machine will miss steps. The Y axis is particularly vulnerable because of the typically higher moving mass.

where are the acceleration and jerk settings located, probably in the firmware? Where to look?

Are you printing onto a glass bed which is on a heated plate?

If so, make sure that the glass is fixed to the bed with sufficient force!

I once tried to tape it down with tape, and I was getting crazy step skips.

It was the bed sliding about which caused it!

This may not be your issue.
