ABS minimum soft tempratures

Hi,

I need to build a case for a project that will be bolted on a surface that will be heated.

I did my tests with a thermocouple and the hot surface stabalize at max 81C (wont go over).

Usually, run time is about 6 minutes : ramping the hot surface to 80C then goes down from there).

At other times, it could also run longer. (around 3-4 hours, goes to 80C and won't go any higher)

Of course, i'll be using ABS for this project..

I know that the melt point is around 220C but what about the softning point ?

I'd like to know if 80C to high and will the ABS soften and warp my case or i'm I OK ?

Thanks,

J-F

80C is pretty high for ABS, especially for and extended period of time.

First you need to understand that not all ABS will be exactly the same just as not all chocolate chip cookies will be exactly the same. That being said I saw several property sites listing ABS working temperature up to 80c max so you would be right on the edge of that limit. Now, if it's a case and the outside is in ambient temperature you might be OK. Or if you have an all metal hotend, you could use a higher temperature plastic such as Polycarbonate.
