Coordinate System Help

Background: I'm in the early stages of rebuilding an existing industrial 3D printer, so I have a bit of reverse engineering ahead of me. (Original Thread Here)

I'm trying to setup the polarity of my motor for my z-axis. I understand the right hand rule, however I am looking for confirmation that my logic is correct before moving forward. I'm using Marlin and Pronterface and my motors are calibrated (distance wise) but I wanted to make sure my z-axis is correct.

Here is my current setup: My coordinate system is setup with the origin (home) in the back right. moving x+ on pronterface moves the extruder to the left. Moving y+ moves the head forward. Moving Z+ moves the bed down (equivalent of moving the head up).

Is this correct?

Sounds good to me.

It doesn't really matter, but your X and Y are backwards according to standard CNC conventions:

Note that the arrows in these pictures is movement of the cutting tool/extruder, so it applies in reverse to the table.

Thats a good point. The back right area has a cleaning station at the home position, so I like that as the origin. That's why I chose my x and y axis as I did.

Thank you.

I'm in the competing brands boat. similar setup but they had the switches set in the upper left, 'purge bin' in the upper right. So in my case home is upper left(x, max -/ y, max+), purge/wipe is upper right(x,y max+) and yep, z+ moves table down. yeah... its goofy. smiling smiley
