Where die you buy the E3d? There are many more ways to buy a bad fake than to buy the original.

Do you have a fan mounted on the hot-end and is it operating all the time?
What sort of extruder do you have pushing filament into it?

I had some problems with my E3D V6. In the end, the root cause was a failing heat sink fan. It was working but at reduced speed. I eventually had a filament swell / plug all the way up through my extruder body. I replaced the heat sink fan during the rebuild and immediately noticed the new one was much louder and pushed much more air.

new heat throat 16 inc delivery but dont want i t to bend break again

the fan comes on after layers
but when i got on 100% all the time could never get it uptp 230 for abs any ideas
i have a new fan too as bought some genuine e3d spares from someone selling there printer bits

should the fan be operating all the time

The air guide of the fan should keep the airflow away from the heater. You should be able to run the fan continously without limiting extrusion temperature.
Maybe the guide is not set up correctly? Can you post an image?

The small fan (left) pointing at the cooling fins of the hotend should be on all the time, though I have mine setup in marlin to turn on whenever the hotend is above 50 degrees.

The large fan (right) blowing on the heater block and print surface is not needed for ABS prints, which I believe don't require any cooling (can result in warping). If you are using the fan for PLA, I would recomend printing a vent or cowl to direct the air at the print itself rather than the heater block. This fan, assuming you wire it separately, can be turned on via your slicer settings to cool PLA prints once the first few layers are down.

While the large being on prevents your hotend from reaching temperature, not having the small fan on (assuming the two are wired together) during the initial heat up process is likely what is causing your blockage problems. Also consider double checking your PTFE liner as it is possible it was overheated at some point and damaged as a result.

It seems you are missing the original air guide, without that it will be more difficult to make this work. You need to keep a constant airflow over the heatsink.
Edit: it was a bit hidden, but it seems you still have it. That fan has to run all the time to prevent clogging. The big one should only cool the printed object, not the heater.

ok thanks both fans come on off with the slicer sortware so if i separate the e3d fan on the heatsink where do i wire this to on my ramps 1.4 or can i wire to the power supply

some say you dont need fan on for abs even mine come on after 2 layers currently

ok will dissconect the print fan as using abs a lot and sort the esd when het new heatthroat have a spare heatsink will use that too and hopefully will have some luck

Direct to the power supply is typical.

Also I have various bits and pieces lie in around anyone tyred making there own hotend

The E3D is regarded as one of the better hot ends . . . if you have never run it with the fan setup correctly, I will propose that you really don't have any idea how well it may work.

If it is an orignial E3D v6 keep it. It is much better than anything you can build from scrap parts. Just learn how to use it correctly.
