Based on your design I would think that the bottom of the Wade extruder would get way too hot plus you will have to stick a lot more energy into the barrel to get it to heat up. You want to isolate the heat in the barrel not transfer it to the extruder. You might take a look at Adrian's new design or the new MK5 from MakerBot.

Yes I am sure you will melt your PLA parts with that arrangement.

My plumstruder has a bigger clearance gap between the end cap and the barrel. It also has a big heatsink and a small fan, but it still gets too hot for comfort for use with PLA brackets, especially over a heated bed.

I think you will need to add a substantial heatsink and a fan.

Thanks for the thoughts guys... I am working on a new one now...Will post a pic when its close...


BTW the new one will be ABS (both the extruder and x-carriage.)

I know this is silly but has anyone tried to use a thermoelectric cooler in any way?
