Has anyone used HIPS filament

Has anyone used HIPS filament

Hey guys. I've been printing pla for a little while, and attempted to use abs but when heating my bed I noticed it only got to 95C. I guess it may be possible to use abs with a 95C bed but from what I've heard about issues getting it to stick I decided to look for an alternative material. I'm mainly looking for a plastic that will flex a little, unlike pla. I saw that HIPS will print with a 90C to 110C bed and is supposedly similar to abs. I'm in the process of finding material information about it, but does anyone have experience with how it printed for you or what the physical properties are like? Does it flex a little like abs?

I've printed with pla, abs and hips. Hips is more flexible than abs, it prints a bit more difficult, warps and cuts corners more. Abs prints more accurate. I like abs better for accuracy. I think abs and hips are more similar than pla and hips. Hips bends more before it breaks, that's high impact part of the acronym can be thanked for that. Layer adhesion is slightly better with hips. I'd also consider petg. I've bought a roll but haven't tried it yet.

I've pretty much given up on HIPS. I wanted to use it as a disolvable support material, but I couldn't get it to adhere to the bed very well. What's more, it didn't adhere to itself very well either!

I've wondered if my Hatchbox "HIPS for PLA" was bad and if I should try a different version.

If you want something semi-flexible (harder than Ninjaflex, but deformable), have you considered something like FlexSolid from MakeSolid, or Polyflex from Polymaker?

Oh yeah I meant similar to abs. Thank you! I did a little reading on petg just now. I think I'm going to try that instead of hips. So far I've only printed pla and it's stuck well directly to the glass at like 60C. I've heard for abs something like PET tape helps bed adhesion. I'm considering buying a big roll of it from Amazon. Do you think it's necessary?

I am just using glue for ABS. When I have trouble with it sticking it's usually because the bed isn't leveled good enough or I need to clean the glass and reapply more glue.

I want it more firm with a little flex. No I haven't heard of those but I'll check them out!

Thanks for the help. I'll try it on plain glass first.

I had a similar problem. I fixed it by going to an arts and craft store and buying some 1/4 inch cork board. I cut a sheet to fit the bottom of the heated bed and used Kapton tape to hold it in place.
If you want to speed up the initial heat up of the bed make another cork sheet and drop it on top of the bed. MANUALY tell the bed to heat up. When it gets hot enough then remove the cork from the top and tell it to start printing. if the printer automatically starts printing when the bed finishes heating up and the cork is on top it causes problems.
