All Reprap Snappy components - printable as is?

Hi,

I've persuaded work colleagues that we can use our new 3d printer to create the main parts for a second one.

I've picked the Snappy because it is the most printable of the Reprap models. We will use ABS/solid fill to print for max strength.

The Cubicon Single needs the STL files exported to Gcode files for printing.

Can I ask, are all the Snappy components printable without the need for generating support scaffolding? Some pieces appear to have areas that might need it. Or are they small enough for the printer to deal with (eg: it can pass over the small gaps without the print failing)?

Cubicon slicer should be able to create support ABS material that is supposed to be broken off once part is finished.


How much does Cubicon material cost? If it is anything like Stratasys then Snappy printer will cost hundreds of dollars (if not thousands) just in ABS material. I mean it might be a better idea just to buy a printer kit (like mendelmax or prusa) minus all the printed parts. That way you can have a way better designed printer together with your own printed parts at a much lower price.

Oh and there is a Tantilus printer that can also be mostly printed. It boosts a better design than a snappy but comes a lot smaller at 100x100x100 (mm) build space.
