Incremental copies and tolerences?

Ok after having a quick look around I cant find anthything about incremental errors that would build up from people copying copied parts, such as with cast parts.

Has this issue been addressed? if not how do I go about starting a guide for builders in the wiki?

Hmmm ... I haven't seen second-gen or third-gen cast parts floating around.

Mendel is actually a massive nuisance exciting challenge, casting-moldmaking wise. Which is why Foton is doing up a machine optimized for casting-moldmaking. Along with being a developer, he's also an entrepreneur, so I suspect he's not actually going to ... encourage his down-stream purchasers to make molds from his parts. But it's all part of the fun, he got his start by making a set of molds from a set of parts nophead sold him.

For generic mendel-printed mendel, we seem to do quite well using the odd ruler, digital caliper, and acrylic drafting triangle. As we bring more and more steel, aluminum, and epoxy-granite machines under the reprap umbrella, I imagine builders and designers will adopt more professional-machinist-type metrology equipment.

if not how do I go about starting a guide for builders in the wiki?
Easiest thing in the world. Go to the wiki, log in, tweak the url of the page in the browser address bar to read
http://reprap.org/wiki/Your_New_Page_Name, and then, where it reads:

... with 3D-printing objects from digital data the 'following' errors are caused mainly by inaccuracies of the mechanical setup ... so a 'copy-printed' part with better mechanical buildup can be even better/more accurate than the parent spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

Sebastion mooted meta-molds some time ago. It got me thinking that vacforms that builders could pour their own favourite/easily accessible polyurethane/epoxy/polyester/plaster/cement concoctions into would be a fast, cheap efficient way of manufacturing and distributing. Some user finishing necessary, but simple, like rubbing on emery paper and reaming holes. Use the vacform as the surface finish, don't bother stripping the cast out.
