Need advice plz on my DIY 3D Printer project
July 14, 2016 01:16PM
Hey guys,

I ordered a time ago a cheap DIY 3d printer.
I configured and build him and now i can print PLA satisfied good.

Now i want to start build my own printer with some of the best stuff i can buy on market.

To start with this as my basis:

[grabcad.com]

Now i want to extend the printing surface a little bit.

Additionally what is the absolut best controllerboard on market right now?

My choice: [www.fastbot3d.com]

FAstbot would have 5 to 7 stepper drivers for a bigger printer
or smoothieboard.

Are there any other boards with a fast cpu out? Not arduino etc...

And are there any other better stepper motors beside NEMA 17?

Thx

Fastbot doesn't look to be actually available, see thread: [forums.reprap.org]

I'm using a Duet 0.8.5, [reprap.org], which is working great. If you're not in a big hurry to get one, there is the new DuetWifi at [www.duet3d.com]

Do you have requirements / design?

Checkout Folgertech FT-5 ............. $500 USD

[folgertech.com]

little printed plastic on FT-5

Controller: MKS Gen 1.4 ---- you can upgrade to MKS SBASE 32 bit processor
or other 32 bit controller

I just started to build an FT-5

Hmm this sounds nice. I wanted to use that ultimaker extended cad version and build that one. But im not satisfied with the construction as you can see the 2 guiding rods are only on one side of the print plate.

I saw this ürint plate:

[shop.germanreprap.com]

but i think its little bit too large.

I was thinking to use that guiding pieces for the axes to have superb and perfect smooth sleds:

The construction with the 2 opposite threadet rods seems to be much better,

Thx for link.

HOw far are you with your build of the printer,

Hmm im gonna buy a board ill buy an original smoothy. Bad experience with chinese electronic. Bad quality of electronic parts.

Are there no other boards out there with fast cpu beside smoothieboard and fastboard?

Yes, the Duet 0.8.5 and the Duet WiFi. Both are manufactured in the UK, not China. The Duet WiFi has super-quiet TM2660 stepper drivers.

Why do you need auto leveling?

What type auto leveling?

Been printing for years --- every so often --check level of build plate to X and Y axis
slip a piece of paper under nozzle and adjust if necessary?

I'll bet you have a self parking car???

With a 32 bit processor you will just have 100x no-ops waiting for mechanics to catch up.

I'll bet you have a 5.7 liter Turbo charged engine in your Yugo?

500 x 500 x 500 build area good luck got a chain hoist to move it around?
