I need feedback MakerGear
January 19, 2011 12:35PM
I'm looking for a seller of a Mendel (good quality).
But when I try to get some answers from www.MakerGear.com I get the feeling that it is the first machine that will build. However they are very quick to respond.

And I have some questions that remain unanswered for them, like:
4 - After ordering how long it takes to ship the product?
5 - The machine is fully disassembled, or some parts come assembled? Come with installation instructions?
6 - The software and firmware are installed? Or have to have knowledge of electronics?
7 - What is the definition of impression in X, Y and Z?
9 - Everything comes with installation instructions?

I wish someone could help me because I wanted my order Mendel until Friday, but it is not easy.

I have other people interested in selling me maybe I'll have to choose one.

As to 4, it says on most parts currently "ships the week of feb. 10".. Rick makes batches to keep production high and price low. This translates to having to wait if you order when there is nothing in stock.

As to 5, yes it you get a big bag of stuff to assemble, and the installation instructions are under "instructions" on the web page. MakerGear instructions are easy to follow and full of pictures.

As to 6, Dont know, but uploading the firmware to the Arduino board is something you will do rather often, so you might as well just cut your teeth in... 3D printing is NOT ready for the general population, and expect that you have to actually read some documentation/forums/mailing lists to get up and running... also, dont expect your first prints to look like those you find on the web!

As to 7, That depends on what you set your pololu steppers for.. none, 1/4, 1/8 or 1/16th microstepping gives different resolution (obviously), but the resolution is better on all axis than the extrution diameter and the stiffness of the machines skeleton will allow you to utilize anyhow, so you are pretty much asking for a purely theoretical number. You can find the exact numbers somwhere on the reprap wiki.

As to 8, uhm... cant answer invisible questions ;-)

As to 9, yes, instructions are at the lower left hand corner of the front page. Instructions are available for: Stepper Plastruder, SuperPack, HeatCore, Heated Build Platform, Printing with PLA. Everything not listed there is generic information which can be found on the reprap wiki
