Hello reprap forum I was wondering if anyone knew what firmware ran on the 3D stuffmaker evolution gen 2

No idea. As they're Australian, should be someone on their email about now. Why not ask them?

I have heard that the company has gone through some business issues and I am unable to make contact with them

Well... it's a Prusa I3 variant.

It's most likely got either Repetier or Marlin on it.

Fact is, most printers will take most firmware. The tricky bit is editing the source code of the firmware for that particular model.

If you really have no other option, google "3D Printers for Dummies", that will talk you through building an i3 from scratch. Including putting Marlin onto it.

I've tried Marlin and tried configuring it to the printer but it just came up with a blue screen and an unresponsive dial on it so idk whether if I have to replace the board or try other things

Ah, you can download PRONTERFACE and talk to the printer via serial cable.

That way you know if the printer can obey commands while you get the screen sorted. You have to enable the screen in the Marlin code, but you DON'T need an active screen to test the printer out.

... In config.h, the line (all these are nearly at the bottom of config.h)

//#define ULTRA_LCD //general LCD support, also 16x2

Uncomment it to read

#define ULTRA_LCD //general LCD support, also 16x2

Then you have to select which controller set. Most work with G3D or Sainsmart, so try G3D first by changing

//#define G3D_PANEL

To read

#define G3D_PANEL

Compile and give it a go. The screen should work, although the encoder knob might not. If it doesn't, you need to put the comments back on the G3D line so it read as before

//#define G3D_PANEL

And then try the Sainsmart option by changing

//#define REPRAP_DISCOUNT_SMART_CONTROLLER

to read

#define REPRAP_DISCOUNT_SMART_CONTROLLER

recompile and try again.

It's usuallly one of those two, but there are other options like MAKRPANEL and ULTIMAKER, it just depends how the screen and encoder control are wired in,.

That's another beer to claim off a manufacturer that couldn't support their customers. smiling smiley

just tried what you said (G3D_Panel) and there is nothing displaying but the buzzer makes a very high pitched noise

Start with a picture of the controller, if you have the wrong motherboard very little works.

after a quick google I found [download.3dstuffmakers.com]
This says that the evolution gen 2 uses a gen 6 controller

Ie these [reprap.org]

so verify your controller looks like that and make sure your motherboard is set to BOARD_GEN6

(type 5 on older firmware that uses numbers)
