Has anyone else noticed that the excelvan 1.75mm PLAS filament seems to be out of stock almost everywhere, a few months ago it was just popular colours like silver but now it seems all colours are out of stock unless you want 3mm or you want to pay double or more than a month ago. Does anyone know whats going on or is it time to convert the machine to 3mm?

I ordered a couple of rolls of Excelvan 1.75mm ABS from Amazon UK about 6 to 8 weeks ago (yellow and red) and it was in stock.
More recently it was not showing so I ordered Sunlu ABS instead. It prints pretty good and is cheap.

So what are the good alternatives to Excelvan?

I've been quite pleased with the Solutech filaments. They're not bargain basement prices but are pretty good value and have been good quality so far.

Despite reading one thread here about a bad roll, I've tried a roll of reprappertech ABS from 3dfilaprint at about £18/reel and it prints nicely and is very well wound.

I notice that the seller on EbAY had only full rolls of white PLA. I went ahead and bought a couple of 1/2 and 1/2 rolls. I had really good results with the light green. Disclaimer, my nozzle temp isn't calibrated but I got the best results were when I bumped up my extruder temp to 240C. That light green stuff just printed awesome. The other half of the roll is white and it doesn't print near as well at any temp.

20 quid for a spool of plastic "pla" not that bad for a reasonable blend of pigment and plastic, and that price hasn't really changed in three years there's still spool for £13 out there, just the pigment ratio aint that great but it prints well enough.
we just happen to have rather good run of a budget exclvan fila at £9 we forgot the price we where paying. drinking smiley if you think paying £20 to high, we know what got to be done and it requires capital start up of £1500 to get the first shipment in and a strategy of distribution. but that plan went tits up, and possibly the ebay sellers sent us a big fk you.

We gave it a whirl but what was needed was some cash. I got a roll of print3dreams.co.uk ABS for around £13 and it was quite nice. Can't seem to find much more about.

Jinx, can you recommend a source for the rolls at £13 you think are OK. The last one I tried was unusable.
