Extruder Motor Problem
December 15, 2016 09:38PM
Hey guys im in need of some help, i have purchased a kossel delta plus and i cannot get the extruder motor to work.
The motor works i have tested it by plugging it in into the X axis and confirmed that it works. When i use pointerface and extrude the motor moves in a strange way (back and forward) as seen in the following videos:

When i go to extrude, nothing works, The motor moves but like it is supposed too as seen on the video:

[goo.gl]

it's hard to see but it moves back and forward in very small increments,
Here is another video with faster speed:

[goo.gl]

i would also like to mention the extruder it self heats up and still doesn't work and the m302 code does not work

Thanks for the help

Chances are that you have a bad connection on your extruder stepper driver or slot. Try swapping the driver for another one and see what happens.

Hey i did swap drivers and also checked the voltage of both are in working condition

It seems to be just jiggling back and to. This suggests either your wiring from the motor to the controller is wrong and that you have the wires from each pairs of coils mixed up or your motor current is too low. Use a multimeter set to resistance to check which two pairs of wires have resistance between them. This pair need to be connected to pins 1&2 of the motor connector on the driver motor connector, and the other pair to pins 3&4.You can slide the metal contacts out of the connector and rearrange them, or cut and solder the wires. Turn the current up a bit and see if it helps.

Apologies if you've checked this already but it seems the most likely reason. You can't rely on the colours of the wires with some kits as the motors are not necessarily all the same batch.

And I'd also make sure with a multimeter to verify you read the ohms through the stepper motor wiring at the other end of the wire. I had a problem with 1 stepper motor that had a bad connection on one wire that cause it to "stutter" back and forth. In my case, I found the pin wasn't making good contact with the motor itself, re-crimped that pin and its been fine since.
