Using the Duet Sheild outputs to drive extra axes

Hi, I hope I'm putting this in the right forum.

I have a single extruder reprapro Mendel 3 with Duet Controller and a Duet Sheild. The duet sheild has extra outputs for 2 additional extruders and I'm trying to use the M584 command to configure these as U and V axes drivers. This takes the form M584 Un Vn, where n is the relevant drive number. However, the documentation for the Duet Shield does not (that I have found) contain any information on what the drive numbers are in firmware. Does anyone know?

There is a dedicated forum for the Duet in the Controllers section of these forums.

For the Duet 0.6 + Duet shield, the X,Y,Z,E0 drivers on the Duet are numbers 0-3 respectively (although you connect to E0 via the shield) and the E1 and E2 motor outputs on the shield are numbers 4-5. I think the one nearest the expansion connector is E1 i.e. 4.

Can you confirm you really are adding additional axes, not just additional extruders? If you are just adding extruders, you don't need the M584 command.

Yes, adding two axes. Have been passed the hardware with a second extruder mounted, and am going back to single extruder and adding axes.

That worked first time once I had the right drive numbers in my config.
I can confirm that the stepper connection nearest the expansion header connector on the Duet Shield is number 4, the one immediately to the right (above the 3 indicator LEDs) is 5. At least with a Duet 0.6.
