z-axis problems

I have 2 z-axis motors on one DRV 8825 in parallel on a ramps 1.4 board the problem is the moment i try to move the motors up or down it just step about one step and stop.
It seems almost if the drive goes in to a safe mode or something. If i switch of the power for a few seconds and restart, it does the same.
I must mention it is a new build what am i missing ?

The X and Y axis is perfect it is just the Z, i dont get it to move more than about 1 step, so homing is out of the question.
I will check the serial window !

you need to adjust the pot on the driver board best done with a meter and small metal screwdriver as the meter probe the other lead on gnd and you can watch the voltage as you adjust make it about 0.9v and motors should turn play with the volts in that range too much higher and the driver gets hot and motors grumble and complain too low they do the same
