Do you mean which one should you use? I think binary takes up less space.

As a programmer I might add that ascii stores floating point number as text as the binary as they are represented in memory and the conversion back and forth to text could introduce differences. Just a note.

ok. Opened a handful in a text editor and see both are used. I had originally thought that the reprap software would only take one type.
