Another scrap yard score!

Another scrap yard score!

This time it's 1" square t-slot, 11 pieces in varying lengths from 660-850 mm. A total weight of 13 lbs, all for $13!

Visit your local scrap yards!

As you can see, it's a little dirty- a few minutes in the sink with a scrub brush fixed that. There are a few screw holes here and there, and some scratches. It isn't new stuff. Now I just have to decide what to build with it...

That would be a real challenge! grinning smiley

Yeah totally, I run through the parts i've seen from cars,,,and nothing much springs to mind, heavy duty joints...unless you could control the car with a duet wifi, with molten stuff coming out the sump.

Your "local scrap yards" are amazing...

Around here you have dead car yards and lots of places recycling metals

Anything nice like t slot joe public never gets to see... It goes to the recyclers whom wont let you look at what they have

Straight into the smelter with the alloy hubs.

So I got a three V8s to use on my soon-to-be 100m diameter Delta printer. I figure if I use the A4988 stepper drivers to run the spark plugs, and the direction setting to switch between 1st/reverse gear, I can get 1mm resolution. Where can I get 200400 extrusion? Should I use 256x microstepping?

lol

I reckon you could do a slow chunky linear motion system using wiper motors ratcheting along steering racks... 1 step per 25mm or something smiling smiley

You could always make a V8 blender.

A heated rear window would do as printbed...

Now if you are going to use V8s for stepper motors you will need some decent extrusion. Here is some that I scored earlier:-

Keyboard is there for scale but also see standard paving blocks.

Nice, whats that going to be used for, would make a rather expensive/heavy heatsink.

Any ideas gratefully received. I don't like seeing anything nice go to scrap and 1 meter of 100mm x 600mm T slot extrusion plus assorted lengths of 100mm x 100mm was too nice to let it get melted down.

That would make for a real nice cnc router table. bit small on the cutting table size but nice and beefy.

It would make a great heatsink led light fixture...but too good for that, and more suited to a CNC table,
a slice of 200mm would be a nice foot for my printer, especially if slots are 15 or 20 apart.
