Thought I'd introduce myself

Hello,

As of this afternoon, I have completed the mechanical construction of my Mendel. So I'd thought I'd better say hello.

I've also received tracking details about the electronics and hot end. So hopefully I'll be shaking down everything next weekend! Its taken me about a month between the decision to commit to building a RepRap and getting to this stage.

Apart from one stupid mistake on my part (Y-Axis bearing mounts the wrong way around). This build has appeared to have gone really smoothly. All the axes move easily and I can turn the motors to move their respected axis without having to use too much force.

Off the bat, and without adjustment of the print bed, I'm seeing a variance of up to 1.5mm in height, so well happy with that. I understand this can be eliminated through the Y-Axis springs. I'll adjust this once I've added the opto-stops and electronics.

I bought the plastic parts from Nophead via eBay, and if I can print anywhere close to their quality then I'll be happy.

Although I'm content with my effort so far, I guess its now that the real hard-work begins? So will probably start needing help. Hopefully I won't get too annoying with my requests.

Oliver

mechanical build is definitely the easy part.

I suggest the opto holders from the prusa mendel and flag holder I designed for the opto stops.

lining them up can be a pain... I'd send you a set for the cost of shipping.

Welcome to the site Oliver. The build looks good so far. What electronics do you plan on using?
Best of luck with it.

Welcome. I've built both a mendel (currently held up by electronics issues) and a huxley. The huxley printed its first bottle opener last night.... I agree with the above that the mechanics are the easy part. I am in love with the techzone monolithic board in comparison to the 6 individual boards of my mendel.

Enjoy

Nice. Nophead really does make high quality parts.

It appears that you have mounted your z-axis motor on the left side of the Mendel instead of on the right side. That shouldn't change anything with the motor wiring or electronics. Also your x-axis motor is on the opposite side from the design. Also no change in direction but make sure that you mount the x opto endstop on the right side of the Mendel (your left) or you're parts will come out mirrored. smiling smiley
