What is the output on the extruder controller?

I have a makerbot electronics set as well as a reprap verson 6 coming in. I'm trying to understand how the extruder board functions. It takes a temperature sensor in, then output some voltage right? How much voltage does it put out and at what current? Can this current drive a solid state relay? Thanks.

... it's switching the 12V over the MOSFET's to the outputs.

The maximum current is defined by the MOSFET's (with cooling more) and the capability of your power source.

I think you can apply 24V instead of 12V too ... be sure there's nothing limiting the max. voltage, as capacitors, voltage regulators or such ...
