Choosing correct stepper driver board

Hello. Newbie here. I'm trying to build a cartesian style base using 17hd40005 22b stepper motors. I plan on using an Arduino Uno, but I recognize that I also need a driver for the motors. Would a Pololu A4988 driver work for this situation? I am unsure, so I wanted to double check before damaging any motors.

The A4988 is only rated at 1 amp with no cooling which would be barely enough to run your 1.3 amp motor. With active cooling it can handle 2 amps. A drv8825 driver can handle 1.5 amps with no cooling and 2.2 with cooling. It would be a better choice.

Be cautious using 8825. They work well but require the use of diodes for smooth and quiet operation.

Ok good to know. Glad I checked.

Out of curiosity, are there other driver boards that would also work? I am open to using the diode solution, but I just wonder if there's another one that doesn't have the same issue. If not, I guess I'll order those then.

Edit: Or wait, do those boards already have the diodes? It looks like they do.

TMC2100 boards may work as well.

If you want the optimum between cheap, quiet and stable then lv8729 are great. Will go up to 1.5a but your 1.3a motors will run best at around 1.0a, you want to run motors at or below 80% current handling capacity or they will get hot.
