from DIY to advertiser on YouTube.
let me say first:
this is not meant to be ugly, but I find it so unfortunate that......

I think it's a shame but Thomas is no longer of the DIY
it is now more advertising for Prusa, or other....
of course Prusa is a wonderful Printer!
but do not we now forget what we were doing?
and this does not only count for Thomas
name a few names: 3D Maker noob, 3D Printing Nerd,
CHEP, 3D Printing & Electronics, Maker's Muse
I am sorry to say.....
was not it: together, sharing, DIY, help each other!
I say, less advertising please?
maybe I make angry people (sorry for that!)
everyone a nice Christmas

sorry for bad english/language!
Greetings from the Netherlands!
Rob.

Commerce is a demanding mistress. When she says "does this make me look fat?", you'd better have the answer she wants to hear.

If you review products for a living, you have to be nice, or companies will stop sending you their products to review. No reviews, no ads, no $.

You'll have a hard time finding honest reviews- the user reviews are often by people who either have very limited experience, so their $200 printer is "great!" because they don't know what to look for, or they're playing nice because they fantasize about getting into the business of product reviewing.

Another example is the buyer reviews on amazon.com Many are schills and many don't know what they're doing or how to use the product. Sometimes, you can use sites like camelcamelcamel to sort those out, but mostly you have to decide for yourself if the product description and reviews convey sufficient information to make a wise buying decision.

It all comes down to who you trust most: commercial product reviewers, amateur product reviewers, or your own judgment.

When you do it for fun, you can afford to do it for free. The fun is your payment.

When it takes time, effort and you have to pay bills, it is a different story.

If you want honest reviews done by experts, you have to pay for it.

Nothing comes for free.

So you review all these reviews and you use common sense.
You are welcome to share your conclusion (for free, take your time smiling smiley ).

When I read: "together, sharing, DIY, help each other!", you scare me. Societies have been built on these principles. Read "The Gulag Archipelago "

I am a Dutchman and I have to make some effort to understand your writing,
but I have understood enough of your writing!

about 3D printing I am a true hobbyist and I really like it!
I always liked watching the videos of Thomas, BECAUSE you could learn from him!
but now that is not the case lately
it is not a stepstick or again Prusa or something else.
unfortunately it is what it is, advertising!

but okay let it be...
wish everyone a Merry Christmas!

Rob,
You learned from Thomas. Now what did you give him in return ?

You've just got to take all reviews and average them, it's a shame that some of the YouTubers have become more commercial but I agree it's inevitable, they do that as their job and they have to pay the bills. If you want to do youtube reviews do them I'd watch it, hell I'd do some myself, but being able to avoid the commercial side forever would be hard.

Yes, you are also right!
I did not give him anything back.
and yes bills have to be paid that is also the true/case!
I would like to say sometimes I also help people
and do not get anything in return, and that is also not necessary
I like it when they become happy about it! (for me that's enough!)
.
but yeah I do understand it
I stay think it's a pity
but you can not do anything about itsad smiley

you all, and for those who read with us!
once again nice days and also in the next year
a lot of luck for you and the family!thumbs up

You watched the commercials on his page, which is why advertisers pay him to put their ads on his channel. That's what you did for him and that's more than enough. That's how the internet works. If something is "free" , you are the product being delivered to the advertisers.

A couple decades ago, before the www and youtube, he would have written a book and sold it. Now no one buys books, so you set up a camera, make some videos, attract an audience, then sell the audience to the advertisers. It's a slightly different model, but it's still just business.

yes we / I should not be naive indeed.
yet there are people on Y.T. those movies make how they make their 3D printer!
maybe we should focus on that.

I'm curious on if you watched the MK3 review or not. Tom was rather critical on how a lot of the features were not working properly, even though Joseph Prusa was in the chat while the stream was going. And how are all the Hangprinter videos not DIY?

Yes I saw it,
and indeed it went completely wrong! smiling smiley
.
hang printers well that is DIY! (not my thing!)
but am afraid that we now shall receive more and more advertising.
but I have now found another DIY person at Y.T.
and yes, that will also happen, that at given moment.......

Or may be the original Prusa is better as a kit for beginners than the myriad of Chinese imitation like the Anet, Tron, Tevo, CR .... which are plain junks but sell like hot cakes.
Furthermore these copiers bring nothing in term of innovation, worse, they disgust people to try to do/publish anything knowing they will be ripped off if it is any good.

I would have agreed with your assessment about the junk value of some of these machines, but I recently bought a CR10 to design a piezo sensor for it, and was surprised by the build quality, ease of assembly and documentation which all surpassed my expectations by quite a margin. It's a copy in so far as it has the same basic layout as an i3 but has many innovative features.

I did not get chance to really put it to the test printing yet, but I will and from what I've seen on the Internet they can manage quite good output. They aren't just selling well because they are cheap or well advertised, but as some of these machines must be fairly capable.

I was shortly going to order a prusa mk3 but I will wait until I have given the cr10 chance to prove itself useful.

As for advertising Tom seems to me to be one of the least "sell-out" of the YouTubers covering 3d printing, but he has to make his channel earn him a living, therein lies the rub.

Although a lot of Chinese things are junk, many are vary good quality - as I found at my cost. I set up making stained glass lamps 20 years ago when all of the imports were rubbish, but could not compete when they became not only cheap but rather good - I couldn't buy the glass for the price of their made lamps. My handle, leadinglights is one I have used since then and is a play on lead (Pb) and lights as I did windows as well as lamps.

The lesson was reinforced when I broke a 1/2" Stahlwille ring spanner on a tight nut - then got the nut off with a Chinese spanner that cost too little to remeber.

I understand he must do it.
but it is an exaggerated amount of it Prusa Prusa Prusa confused smiley
I think it's just a shame he used to be much more DIY back in the days sad smiley
.
and yes, but Chinese imitation is getting better now!
people in a Dutch 3D print forum(I also sit in) and and three(3) friends of mine have also Anet A6 and 8 but are satisfied with it!
(tinker a bit is occasionally needed yes!) they are not perfect that is true!

the big boss of the Anet will not pay advertising money maybe I think? ;-)

kind regards from the Netherlands!

I suggest you leave comments on his youtube channel pointing to the bias toward Prusa if any.

And ask him to review the Anet for ex.

PS: I am not paid by Prusa, I even consider there are some flaws but I maintain Anet and most of the likes are junks that deserve the sledge hammer or the 12Ga treatment.

yes I have written comments.(I do not think they/he read the comment!)

at the end it's all nonsense of coursewinking smiley
I think you can have bad luck with a cheap printer,
but if you buy a cheap printer you must also be a DIYer yourself!
(at least I think so!)

kind regards from here all!
