think a few of us wondered about this for a while!. So be sure to enable Access Control. 3ders article does seem a bit sinister/scary that an attacker could cause a fire..

anyone leaving their Octo open on the internet is an idiot!

It could easily be a fire risk... hackers just have to turn on all heaters to max, if the user has left something flammable (like a print or paper or socks.. etc) on the bed and just lets it heat up forever.... Can be made worse if hackers made the hotend touch anything on the bed and disabled fans etc...

This mania to have everything connected to the Internet is not my cup of tea. So many things can go wrong without it, you got to have good reasons to do it. I print from SD, not even the PC is connected to my printer.
Now, all this fuss is mainly for the author to get some attention and soon printer firmware will have a firewall, anti virus and all kind of bloated software added to it.
