3d printer cutter optics
May 23, 2011 09:38AM
Hi,

Does anybody know of any diy Optician equiment for cutting and making my own glasses. I know I could use the 3d printer to make the frames out of plastic, but I want to know what I could use for cutting the glass and shaping the glass.

thanks.

Lots of time & > Grinder > sand paper > medium sandpaper > fine sandpaper > very fine sandpaper > cutting compound > polishing compound.

Good luck.

The basic tools for lensmaking have been around for hundreds of years, so the patents are all expired (or non-existant in the first place) so you could look for designs. As far as I know nobody has done it though.

It's rather like a potter's wheel with a turning telescope attached IIRC.
