It's the only one close to dc42 description and they only sell it from China.

I guess you are looking for a 39 or 40mm long motor. With your DRV8825 drivers, this 2A one would also be OK [www.omc-stepperonline.com]. I wouldn't advise using it with Trinamic TMC2100, TMC2130 or TMC2208 drivers.

It's not that it's better I all ready ordered 3 motors two were going on the z-axis. Plus when I built the Mendel90 I built it with the small motors I had from the Beckman dot matrix so I don't room for larger motors unless I redo every thing. wWhich I really don't want to do at this point.

I was hoping to get the Mendel90 working well enough that I could print parts to build a new printer. Then I can size it for the bigger motors.

Check the ones you got from this dot matrix printer, most probably they are of the 12V or 24V type. If so, better put them for the Zaxis that is less demanding and use the new ones for X Y extruder !

In a related question, would using an 0.9 degree motor with 8 micro steps be more precise than a 1.8 degree motor with 16 micro steps?

The motors I got from the dot matrix printers are 12 volts, but only have (1.34 oz in) to low to turn the Z-axis.

Before anyone was replying on this forum I went and bought 3 Nema 17 (45Ncm), 12 volt, 0.4 amp motors. It wasn't till after you folks were replying that I figured out that I bought the wrong voltage and amp motors. I will just see how they work on the Z-axis for right now.

I didn't want to go with a big motor for the Y-axis because the Z-axis motor is have some what of a time pushing the Y-axis up. I figure the smaller 36 Ncm motor would have enough torque to move the Y-axis, because my (1.34 oz in) motors can move it now. Plus the smaller 36 Ncm motors are 20 Kg lighter.

I can't go with to long of a motor for the z-axis because the extuder would never meet the X-axis bed.

My Ormerod printer uses 34mm long 1.33A motors with around 25Ncm torque. They are entirely adequate for it. It's a fairly standard Cartesian printer with a 220mm square bed that moves in the Y axis, and 3:1 geared extruders.

I wanted to ask were you folks get your stepper motors from?

I'm in Pennsylvania USA and when I do a google (shopping) search say for example a 25Ncm motor, I get everything else but a 25Ncm motor.

Are there any place in the USA that you order stepper motors?

I looked at the "shop prusa3d" page briefly and plan to go back to check it out more.

I did buy 3 more stepper motors from ZYLTech which is in Huston TX. I should get them by Friday and change out the old motors. I also bought LM8UU bearings from AliExpress for a great price and I know I wont see them till the end of the month. That's okay as I have plenty of things to check out on the printer.

I search for days on google and through web pages for parts not always finding exactly what I needed.

I know there are lots of parts places over in Europe and on the other side of the world, but I was hoping people would say about parts places here in the USA.

I was hoping we could get a list going of places were you could buy stepper motors and other 3D printer parts. This way it would cut down all the time search for place and it would help newbe's get there parts faster.

Amazon carries a surprisingly large amount of 3D printer related gear. some of it is shipping out of China, but some is next day shipping as well.

I don't do Amazon, had to many friends tell me they got the wrong item and had to pay for return shipping for some one else mistake. Ebay is no better you never know if you're get a new or used part.

I really just wanted to buy stuff here in the USA so I wouldn't have to wait a month. So I switched my search criteria from "Nema 17 stepper motors" to "3D printer parts and supplies" and this is what I found.

This is not a promotion, one place is not better then the other. It's just a short list of 3D Printer Suppliers in the USA so you can get faster shipping then waiting a month for over sea's.

Well your friends are wrong, Amazon* has fast shipping if it's stocked in USA and usually better shipping than AliExpress or Banggood if it does come out of China. I usually buy from China and have to wait 3 times as long, but Amazon is second if I see a deal or need it quick and EVERY time(not too many) there was a foul up or faulty part they or their seller stood behind the deal including free return. ZYLtech is a great source and good that you've found them. Just for fun search Amazon on 'LM8UU' and maybe 'NEMA 17' to see if anything catches your eye. Good luck w/ your printer project.

I can definitely recommend printed solid. They have good products and good support. Filastruder is another us based source you'll never be sorry buying from.

but I did notice the other day 3x 1meter rods was going to be $22shipping, but adding more rods did not increase shipping, so plan accordingly. Bulk is cheaper.
and I always soak and clean the rod bearings very well before re-oiling. usually a lot of grit in there.
