X-axis idler: How do you get the hex-nuts in the nut holes?
May 28, 2011 10:32PM
Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had any idea how to do this, for me at the moment it seems impossible, as the nuts are no where near flush with the plastic, and thus I cannot get the smooth rod into the x-idler..

Maybe its just a low quality x-idler, but I don't know...

any tips would be greatly appreciated smiling smiley

Thanks!
Schulz

I would suggest tidying up the holes as best you can with a scalpel. Then push the nuts in as far as you can. Then using a shorter bolt and some washers, tighten the bolt until it pulls the nut in to the recess. Then remove the bolt and continue assembly as normal.

A bit more difficult with an x-axis-idler though because the nuts are inside 8mm tubes. If they are printed properly they should just drop in and be flush.

I have used a hair dryer to slightly soften the plastic before pulling the nuts in. It takes about one minute on hot blow to get them up to temperature.

Touching a soldering iron to the nut while tightening the bolt also works.
