Decelleration and jerk in Z axis

Does the "jerk" come into play when a stepper motor stops?
Specifically, on the Z-axis with a speed of 4mm/sec, an acceleration of 20mm/secĀ² and a jerk of 5mm/sec (Repetier firmware)
since there will be no acceleration phase on ramp-up. will there be a deceleration before stopping or will the steps just stop?

This info is needed to understand what is happening in the final millisecond before a nozzle makes contact with a bed with piezo disc Z sensors.

Thanks for any info you can give.

Mike
