3MF files for 3D printing

Have you heard about 3MF file format for 3D printing

I think M$ had their finger in it, so I'm never going near it! (yes this is a political decision based on my belief that M$ is evil!)

Very little produces this format... so you have to convert from good old stl somewhere

They also talk about STL being old like being old is always a bad thing, but 3MF uses zip which is even older than STL!

Re file sizes... its zipped, if you want to use it it will take time to decompress it. This is the trade off you make for smaller files. Storage is cheap cpu power is expensive... I would rather have larger files and less cpu power

The can't be non manfoild claim is interesting, But I can't confirm this... as far as I know its still a triangle mesh just inside a container... so that doesn't guarantee its manifold at all,,,
I've probably missed something here...
