Overtemperature warning problem

I'm trying to set up Marlin 2.0.x on an MKS Gen L V2.0 and I can't figure out why the printer keeps sending overtemperature warnings to pronterface.

Here are my errors:

Testing X connection... OK
Testing Y connection... Error: All HIGH
Testing Z connection... Error: All LOW
Testing E connection... OK
00:00: Y driver overtemperature warning! (800mA)

is there something I'm doing wrong?

Error: All HIGH will cause all sort of issues...

Check your jumpers and try swapping driver around, if fault moves the driver might be faulty

I swapped Y and Z and got

Testing X connection... Error: All HIGH
Testing Y connection... Error: All LOW
Testing Z connection... OK
Testing E connection... OK

then I swapped (I think) E and Y and got

Testing X connection... OK
Testing Y connection... Error: All LOW
Testing Z connection... Error: All HIGH
Testing E connection... OK

also, what does ALL HIGH mean?

All high means that the controller asked the stepper driver for information and all it got back was lots of 1's, all high.

It doesn't tell you anything about why...

I figured out that I might have faulty drivers, I've been moving them and I always have an OK, an ALL LOW, and two ALL HIGH errors. I just sorted them by connection problem

Testing X connection... OK
Testing Y connection... Error: All LOW
Testing Z connection... Error: All HIGH
Testing E connection... Error: All HIGH
00:00: Z driver overtemperature warning! (800mA)
00:00: E driver overtemperature warning! (800mA)

What drivers do you use, from what brand? Did you hook up the cables when testing them? Did you unplug cables while the power was on? How are they connected?

I've never seen so many drivers giving off an error. I can imagine maybe one not working correctly but if two or three are wonky there's usually something else going on.
