I'm Needing a little advice for a Geeetech I3 Pro B

Ok So here goes

I am not new to actual 3d printing but I am new too modding, tweaking etc..

A few days ago we picked up a working Geeetech i3 Pro b of Freecycle...

Everythings there just needs a clean and a bit of TLC..

We got it as one it was FREE and two so we can learn how to mod etc with out fear of damaging our others(monoprice) printers... Basically it is free so not too bothered if we break it. In the end we will learn something anyway.

So heres my questions

1)best firmware (has stock 1.0.4 I think lol) with configs etc ?? Are there any predefined Configs? Beware I am 100% NEW too this part of things when it comes to printers.

2)recommended upgrades??(looks completely stock currently)

3)best/Recommended addons and tweaks.

4)Is there a dedicated group for the i3? Or is this about the best?

5)Is the geeetech i3 the same as the Prusa I3?

Any advice suggests are welcome

thank you for responding etc

This 3D Printer is very similar to my Own Hictop 3D Printers.

I basically left the 3DP11/12's as stock with a few mods to allow it to print better. an many more to give the a cosmetic better look.
These mods I did do not apply to your 3D Printer, as most were cosmetic.

Original

Modified

My only upgrade was to marlin firmware 2.0.9.5 this made my printers out print the original by far.
With auto leveling and many other capabilities made it work like a more expensive 3D Printer.
Do not get me wrong this like my own 3D Printer still has its limitations to be sure, it is still a great 3D Printer.
My nephew had them for a couple years and there withstood 24 hour long prints.
Oh I almost forgot I added a heat sink to the Mosfets

As you see the small things will make this 3D Printer run for a long long time.

I upgraded to a low profile proximity sensor though the original large sensor worked fine.
