Infinite retraction at layer change
January 26, 2026 09:49AM
Hi,i am new to 3d printing and i've built a reprap wallace, i am using and arduino uno with cnc shield v3 and teacup firmware.
When printing i have noticed that the printer does the first layer then it retracts the filament too much that it gets out of the extruder.

This is the gcode for the layer change:
G1 X64.582 Y65.314 E45.36642
G1 E44.86642 F60.00000
G92 E0
G1 Z0.440 F7800.000
G1 X55.034 Y44.859 F7800.000
G1 E0.60000 F60.00000
G1 F3600
G1 X55.406 Y45.252 E0.62326

does anyone had encountered this problem before?
Any suggestions are welcome and thank you!

... check the E-values - this are the steps, the extruder has to move ...

Hi, thanks for the fast reply
These are my E-steps in teacup: 997415
i have noticed that when i give the extrude command in pronterface the lenght is 1mm but it extrudes 1cm, if i put the old E-steps*10 in teacup it gives an error becouse it's out of range, there are some settings i need to change in pronterface or slic3r? thanks again!

... I was setting the relation E-steps per mm in the firmware -- for my pastedispensers and laserengravers I'm setting them to "1 per mm" and can then multiply in Pronterface for the wished "pulses per mm" value.

So could be, in your firmware/software-variant is something similar for an "adaptive" pulse-rate?

Unfortunalty there is nothing like that in teacup, i am now tryng to switch from relative coordinates to absolute coordinates for the extruder, thanks again!

i think i have found the settings you where talking about in slic3r and the multiplayer is set to 1 so it should extrude 1mm
